In the past, we’ve shared reasons and methods to pitch yourself to the media, helped you find the best times to do so, and even pointed you to a free report on the Top 11 Ways to Get Free Media Leads and Placement.
But that’s all work you do yourself… so what about your wingwomen?
Testimonials are Third-Party Endorsements that Sell
We like to think of testimonials as money in the bank. They’re mini sales-pitches made on your behalf by your best customers (who swiftly become your cheerleaders). After all, who better to promote you and sell your book or brand than a satisfied customer?
When you receive testimonials, place them strategically on your blog, ideally on your homepage. We put our testimonials on our homepage, success stories page, and at the start of everything in our Learning Library. Ultimately, assurance of a product or service’s quality from customers is more valuable than the assurance of the people who provide it. If Heidi or I tell you that the Ultimate Blogging Binder is awesome, we might come off a little biased.
How do you go about collecting testimonials?
Just ask for them. Most clients love the added publicity they receive from giving you a testimonial (especially if their name appears on your front page), so make sure you emphasize that it’s a win-win situation, and that should do the trick.
Designing a Media or Press Page
Approach blogging with the belief that the media will come looking for you, wanting to learn more about your blog and your brand. You’re pitching yourself and getting others to pitch you, so now get ready for the media to follow by designing a media/press page. This kind of page provides the media with essential information they need to know about you, such as:
- Who you are
- What your blog is about
- Your previous media mentions/features
- Press releases about you
- Links or information for your official logos, headshots, product images, etc.
Blogger Babes’ press page is a hub for any article we’ve been featured in, while our footer and about page address who we are and what we’re about.
